The creative process behind Kenzie & Peter's ranch wedding was one of my favorites to date. Kenzie has a cool, Southwestern style, and as I created her proposal, I returned again and again to Georgia O'Keeffe. We studied her adobe home on Ghost Ranch, with its whitewashed studio, and windows to look out on the desert sage and lavender-yellow skies. And of course, as I sourced Kenzie's flowers, I pored over O'Keeffe's flower & skull paintings, her muted pastel palettes. We wanted to evoke both the stark beauty of the desert and the exaggerated beauty of flowers-- both of which O'Keeffe brought so clearly to life.
As I worked with the flowers, I created a palette of plum, terra-cotta, tangerine, apricot, and mature browns and pinks. There was a skull head to flower up, and a cross to drape in flowers. The endless Texas skies and fields lent our flowers the stark contrast they needed, and Kenzie's effortless style made everything that much cooler. It was the ultimate bohemian wedding-- effortless, landscape-driven, and art-inspired.
